People are concern about environmental problems that are on the rise and they want to reduce there chemical exposures. More work needs to be done on the prevention of cumulative exposures.

  • CMP Phase lll Stakeholder Workshop Ottawa May 24,2017 Presented by Sheila Cole, Senior Policy Advisor, Nova Scotia Environmental Network A brief overview of the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) was presented from the creation of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act of 1988. Between 2006-2020 some 4300 diverse chemicals were asses. Canadians need to be inform and engage in order to reduce their chemical exposure.

  • Consultation on the Proposed Regulation of Mercury-Containing Products in Canada Submitted by Sheila Cole EHANS Health and Toxics Caucuses, RCEN April 28, 2011 with respect to Environment Canada’s April 2011 consultation with ENGOs on the Proposed Regulations Respecting Mercury Containing Products. Mercury continues to be a dangerous exposure through usage in some influenza vaccines, dental amalgam fillings, light bulb filaments, etc.

  • WUF5, RIO DE JANIERO, BRAZIL — OVERVIEW In March 2010, UN Habitat hosted the fifth World Urban Forum, WUF5, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This biannual forum is known to be one of the most inclusive of international meetings of this scale and is recognized as the world’s premier cities conference. Cities generate 80% of all waste and 60% of all green house gases. Cities and the activities within there boundaries represent a huge impact on Earth’s resources.

  • COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN LOCAL AND NATIONAL DECISION-MAKING The highlight of WUF5 for me was presenting the session on Community Engagement in Local and National Decision-Making. This event focused in depth on the subject of Multi-Stakeholder Decision-Making Processes (MSDMPs). The session built upon others that we had presented at WUF3 and WUF4.

  • NOTES FROM SESSIONS ATTENDED AT WUF5 There are always so many interesting sessions at the World Urban Forum meetings that it is always difficult to choose which ones to attend. Following are some of the highlights from several of the sessions I attended at WUF5 UN HABITAT PROFESSIONALS NETWORKING SESSIONS. Sustainable Cities as places of diversity, governance and participation, vulnerabilities to climate change and environmentally sustainable cities.

  • Canadians are increasingly concerned about chemical exposures in the products they use, many of which contain formaldehyde. Breathing problems, asthma and cancer are the highest health concerns related to chemicals exposures like formaldehyde.
